Community Service

Community Service is more than an occasional good deed or an external obligation. It is the primary engine for development of genuine personal character. Moral instruction cannot be taught through passive instruction or classroom lectures alone; it is forged through active, outward-focused responsibility toward others. 

Carrying out service as a cohesive group dramatically amplifies both the impact to the community and the internal development of the participants.  Scouts from Troop 140 are encouraged to invite and involve other Scouts as well as youth outside of Scouting to participate together in service initiatives

• Periodically, organizations reach out to Troop 140 with specific needs. These opportunities are announced to members of the troop at Troop Meeting, or communicated by email.

How do I start a service initiative?

1. Identify a cause that aligns to your desire for service

2. Identify Scouts that could join you

3. Meet with a Scoutmaster to develop a plan to complete the service initiative (This is especially important if you are performing servicve for rank advancement)

   • Meet in Person with any Troop 140 Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster

   • Email scoutmaster@siennatroop140.org (remember to cc a 2nd adult)

If you are unsure where to start, skip steps 1 & 2 and consult with a Scoutmaster on which service project is a good fit for you.
